Scot nationalists mull to have another go for independence

Sturgeon has previously warned that if England voted to leave the European Union in a referendum on membership due by the end of 2017, then Scotland could seek a second independence referendum if its people voted to stay in the EU.

NICOLA Sturgeon has indicated another referendum will not be staged until she believes independence can be achieved, while confirming that the SNP manifesto will contain details of its timing.

She added that in the long run, this is for the people of Scotland to decide on whether to hold an independence referendum “in five years or 10 years or whenever”.

The SNP won 56 of Scotland’s 59 seats in the Westminster parliament in May’s general election.

The SNP’s position is expected to be revealed following the SNP’s annual conference in Aberdeen next month.

“Our manifesto will set out what we think around the circumstances in which, and the possible timescales in which, a second referendum might be appropriate”, Sturgeon told the paper in an interview. She also said she will only hold another referendum if she is satisfied that the vote would have enough support to be successful.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon picked up the award for Politician of the Year after a strong year of supporting LGBT communities in Scotland.

“So to have this recognition is something that means a great deal to me”.

The First Minister also tweeting on Saturday, said that unless Jeremy Corbyn can demonstrate “quickly” he has popular support, “many will conclude that Indy (is the) only alternative to Tory gov”.

Opposition parties have repeatedly blamed Sturgeon for failing to deliver on her “once-in-a-generation” referendum promise. “That’s where we’ve got to do more and do better at convincing people”.

“This SNP has shown yet again that it will always put its obsession with separation first”.

What now matters in politics – both Scottish and United Kingdom – is “authenticity”, or rather the perceived authenticity of certain parties and their leaders.

“T he SNP want the next election to be about the past arguments on independence because they can’t defend their record in government”.
