Dixon noted that Power has more experience in these title chases – he lost three times at the final race and won once – and has a stronger record in the Napa Valley.

The IndyCar season finale will be held in two weeks at Sonoma when Simon Pagenaud and Will Power battle for the season championship.

“I’ll definitely remind Will before the race that he’s got a lot more to lose than I have”, Dixon said with a smile.

Trammel nor Power commented for the report, which states that the next update is expected on Tuesday.

He was checked and released from the infield care center but not cleared to drive pending further evaluation of concussion-like symptoms.

Point leader Simon Pagenaud clipped a tire barrier as practice concluded. Nevertheless, when you are close to Scott (Dixon) and Will (Power) at these kind of tracks you know you’ve done a good job.

Castroneves, a three-time pole victor at The Glen, paced the second group. He has yet to compete in an IndyCar race at this track, but he shouldn’t have any trouble contending for the win.

Instead, the season will wrap up at Sonoma, where Dixon gives Pagenaud the overall edge despite Power’s spectacular record at the California road course, which includes four poles and three race wins. He also won with his third different manufacturer. With this win, Dixon moves to 4th on the all-time list with 40 IndyCar victories.

The New Zealand single-seat motor racing star had been fastest in all three practice sessions in NY over the past two days before taking pole position with a lap of one minute 22.5259 seconds on Sunday morning (NZ time).

Kimball, who survived the clash with Power and another that ended with Graham Rahal in the Turn 1 wall to finish sixth, was unrepentant. “We obviously have a fast race auto, but we’re going to have to put our heads down and try to come from behind”. They made wheel contact.

Kimball hit Power’s left rear tyre in the narrow section of the track at the top of the hill.

The race started with trouble, with cars sliding through turn 1.
