“In that speech last night, I did not say a single negative word about Donald Trump”, Cruz said. “I think that looking at his children and how great they all are and how much they all love their father tells you a lot about the man as a parent”, Kiernan said. That’s what he believes.
Only a handful of times did people make a scene in the crowd protesting.
Mr Trump addressed thousands of the party faithful on the last day of the Republican National Convention in Ohio.
“You know, somebody got booed the hell out of a place by thousands and thousands of people”, Trump said. But it might have destroyed Cruz’s career.
“It ended on a positive note for everyone who was here”, said Erich Wolz, an alternate delegate from Houston.
And then – and this is very, very important to Cruz’s massive gamble – that the politicians who stood with Trump will be tainted by their association with Trump heading into 2020. He praised Cruz for his intellect, but said “he doesn’t know how to use it”. Two nights later, Trump delegates booed and cat-called Cruz when the Texas senator pointedly refused to endorse the party nominee during a prime-time speech.
Cruz insisted he could not support anyone who wages personal attacks against his wife, Heidi.
“Hopefully, somewhere along the lines he’ll step up”, Harmon said.

Trump will also double down on his promises to provide tax relief for business and renegotiate trade deals, ushering in more protectionist policies that are not typically hallmarks of the GOP platform – and that his own running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, has opposed.
It has often been said that “revenge is a dish best served cold”. “It was just a pleasure to be there”. On the whole, the speech – I think – did Trump more good than harm, particularly at a convention in which his message had repeatedly been muddled by self-inflicted errors.
While he didn’t make waves, he did what he needed to do in his speech, Bevin said.
Outside the convention hall, Cleveland’s Public Square on July 21 attracted hundreds of demonstrators – both supporters and opponents of Trump – amid a sizable police presence.
