The medical examiner’s office also noted Weiland’s atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, history of asthma and multi-substance dependence as significant contributors to his death.
Weiland, a native of San Jose, died December 3 in Bloomington, Minnesota, in his bus while on tour with his band, The Wildabouts.
His three-decade career included solo albums and a spot in the supergroup Velvet Revolver.
Renowned as the founding frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, Weiland was on the road with his latest band the Wildabouts.
Weiland, who’s had a long string of drug and alcohol-related arrests and stints in rehab, was 48 years old. He also pleaded guilty to felony heroin possession in 1998.
The Stone Temple Pilots reunited in 2008 and split again in 2013.

Police found Xanax, sleeping pills, Viagra and medication used to treat his bipolar disorder on the tour bus and in the singer’s bedroom, but those drugs did not contribute to his passing.
