Dundee are reported to have held preliminary discussions exploring the notion of taking a Scottish top-flight match overseas for the first time.

Philadelphia and Boston, whose large Scottish and Irish ex-pat population provides a huge Celtic fan base, have been identified as potential host cities.

The game would likely be played as part of next season (2016-17) since Dundee’s only remaining home match against Celtic is scheduled for December 30th.

Dundee’s ownership group is led by American Tim Keyes with partner John Nelms as the managing director of the club.

Celtic have played a number of friendlies in North America and have been looking into the feasibility of starting a franchise in the North American Soccer League.

Any such move has to be approved by the world governing body which, along with Uefa, opposed a similar plan by the English Premier League to take a competitive fixture overseas in 2008.

Dundee now sit 6th in the Scottish Premiership standings and lost 6-0 in Glasgow to Celtic, who are in 1st, back on September 20th.
