The stores are part of the 235 Sears and Kmart store locations Sears Holdings sold to Seritage a year ago when it formed the real estate investment trust.

The Kmart store on Georgia Avenue in Sweetwater was one of 68 stores to close over the summer.

A pair of Kent County Kmart stores will be closed by mid-December, the company announced on Friday, Sept. 16.
The company has been evaluating stores and are closing ones that are unprofitable.
“When we come down (to Lafayette), a lot of times we come over here”, he said of his occasional visits to the store that anchors a mostly vacant strip mall. The company plans to close the stores in mid-December.
“We often hear from our members who are disappointed when we close a store, but our Shop Your Way membership platform, websites and mobile apps allow us to maintain these valued relationships long after a store closes its doors”, Riefs said.
In the fourth quarter, which includes the holiday shopping season, revenue at stores opened at least a year fell 6.9 percent at Sears, and 7.2 percent at Kmart.
“Our members and customers can also shop at our other Kmart locations, which are listed at http://www.kmart.com/stores.html”, said Riefs.

Sears declined to say how many workers will be affected from the store closures, but it said that an overwhelming majority of the jobs are part-time positions.
