‘Scream Queens’ Stars Abigail Breslin, Billie Lourd Get Goofy on Kappa Couch
Former Nickelodeon star Keke Palmer, who rose to fame on “True Jackson VP”, will be scaring up a whole new fandom on “Scream Queens“, from executive producer Ryan Murphy. So far, though, “Scream Queens” is outlandishly fun.

“We’re paying tribute to all the things we loved as kids: “Heathers, ‘ “Halloween, ‘ “Friday the 13th”; but the girls shooting now don’t know ‘Heathers”; they know ‘Mean Girls, ‘” Murphy told THR”. Murphy is great at attracting a talented cast (which here includes Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis and Abigail Breslin, among others) and then saddling them with obnoxious characters and ridiculous dialogue.
If you have not heard yet, “Scream Queens” is going to premiere on Tuesday, September 22 with a two-hour episode, and we expect the show to hit the ground running. Scream Queens may be a familiar universe, but at least it’s thoroughly populated. And we were interested in mirroring that idea, but, unlike that girl, who apologized, sort of bringing our queen bee character to some sort of awareness about her behavior and why she is doing these things.
Chris King, TVOvermind:… while Scream Queens is certainly entertaining viewing, featuring some great one-liners and truly committed performances, its apparent need to constantly top itself, whether with a line of dialogue (some of the racier lines that made it into the pilot certainly push the limits of language on broadcast network TV) or a grisly image, does get a bit exhausting from time to time.
The “scream” half of the title is fulfilled amply as well. With at least one casualty each week until the mystery is solved, anyone could be the next victim – or the murderer.

But “Scream Queens” really sends up that genre. It would not be a Murphy show without male eye candy, courtesy of Nick Jonas, to add to the sexual frustration of teenage life that Murphy shows are always equipped with. Whatever your perspective, if the idea of Glee or Popular spiked with wanton slaughter sounds appealing, Scream Queens initially should have you covered.
