A recent law banned communist symbols there.

The statue on this plinth used to be of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the Soviet Union, who has remain a controversial figure among Ukrainians.

As part of the transformation, Milov stuck a router in Lenin’s head, making him a public WiFi spot, popped a Vader mask on his face, and transformed the coat into a cape.

Vader’s helmet emits free wi-fi to all passers-by. It comes in the wake of a law requiring “decommunization” in Ukraine.

“If you want to take a selfie with them, go ahead, I allow that, but expelling my bodyguards is not allowed”, Darth Vader was quoted by the television channel as telling election officials.

The sculptor Oleksandr Milov told the AFP news agency the Darth Vader movement “has been at the centre of Ukrainians’ attention for many years”. He is thinking of a park of Communist monuments transformed into characters like Darth Vader.

“We are gathering all these statues – like Lenin – and we would like to make a park of forlorn heroes of the epoch”.

Han Solo’s hairy companion apparently turned to the Dark Side as he tried to gain support for his once-upon-a-time arch enemy. “I want to take the statues out of the central squares of cities and put them in a different place like Disneyland, where they can be visited”, he said. One female candidate registered as Darth Alexandrovna Vader, a separate report by Dumskaya says.
