Seach operation at encounter site in Pulwama ends

He said that after successfully liquidating all the three terrorists in Pulwama, the security forces had to face a fresh challenge from two to three terrorists who targeted Sangh police outpost in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district in the evening, injuring two policemen.

Reports from the area said clashes erupted between a stone-pelting mob and the security forces after news about the killing of the LeT commander, who was a local, spread. The holed up militants were still firing on the forces at the time of filing this report.

The search operation near the encounter site in Pulwama district of south Kashmir concluded on Friday as the accomplices of the slain Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant managed to escape. The cordon was strengthened and searches were stopped overnight. Talib was also involved in Puchal incident in which one Head Constable of Railway Police was killed and also in Pahu incident in which one paramilitary CRPF man was killed and others including an inspector and two civilians were injured, police said, adding a number of FIRs are registered against the slain militant. Since the encounter was going, government forces did not allow them to proceed resulting in the violent clashes that left many protesters injured.

This entire area falls in “high-security zone” as the camps of 50 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF’s 183 Battalion, besides the residence of a senior Congress leader, are located here.

A J&K Police officer said a group of four to five militants struck at the police post at about 9 pm. The army has cordoned off the area.
