With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Moore gave up a single to shortstop Corey Seager and was immediately pulled from the game, likely due to his high pitch count.
Seager’s hit sent the sellout crowd of 53,297 into a raucous celebration. Moore’s left fielder was Stephen Vogt, and the opposing pitcher was Jarrod Parker.
“It doesn’t feel like we lost the series, to be honest”, center fielder Denard Span said.
Moore just smiled after Seager’s hit.
“That’s a pretty good rush right there”, Moore said on MLB Network after the game.
“It was a fun ride all the way to that point”, he said. A few hours before first pitch, the Dodgers announced that they had traded clubhouse leader A.J. Ellis to Philadelphia.
Hamels (14-4) retired 19 straight batters after Francisco Lindor’s two-out single to left in the first.
Allowing just one hit with three walks and seven strikeouts in 8 and 2/3 innings of fantastic pitching. Seager and Yasmani Grandal both drew walks – Grandal with two – but the usually explosive Dodger offense was silent.
“I think it was just something where he’s developing his cut fastball that he was using to lefties and righties which he just started throwing this year”, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Moore. “Actually, in the last couple of months”.
Had the Giants lost, they would’ve been swept by the Dodgers and fallen another game back.
Joe Panik homered and drove in two runs for the Giants (69-58), who snapped a four-game losing streak and dropped the Dodgers’ lead in the National League West to two games. He was very grateful and said, ‘Thanks, I appreciate you giving me a chance, ‘ ” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Moore.
James McCann recorded his first career four-hit day as Detroit completed a three-game series sweep of Minnesota. If you look at the game, this game was probably as big as any game we’ve had all year. He’s been here a long time. “We’re looking forward to Ruiz getting here and seeing what he can do”.
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Ross Stripling throws during the first inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, in Los Angeles.
Ubaldo Jimenez (5-11) allowed one run and five hits over six innings.
“I felt sharp”, Stripling said. “I think there’s a little something that salvages it for us in a unusual way”. He retired 12 straight after Adam Jones’ fourth-inning double, and 21 of 22 before Mark Trumbo’s leadoff single in the eighth. It was the most pitches a starter has thrown in a game this season, per the Dodgers’ telecast.
NOTES: Dodgers OF Andre Ethier (broken leg) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs in a rehab appearance for Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday night.
“It stinks, no way around it”, catcher Buster Posey said.

Rookie Seth Lugo pitched five scoreless innings before a right calf cramp forced him out and Alejandro De Aza drove in a career-high five runs as NY defeated St Louis in the rubber match of their three-game series. Atlanta RHP Joel De La Cruz (0-6, 4.47 ERA) opposes San Francisco RHP Jeff Samardzija (10-9, 4.17) in the opener of a three-game set Friday at AT&T Park.
