Seahawks escape with 10-9 win over Vikings

Of course, Walsh prefers to have the laces in when he kicks for some reason that we need the guys from Mythbusters to explain, but this time the laces (and the ball) weren’t perfectly straight, and Walsh shanked the gimme field goal to secure the win for Seattle and give Blair Walsh possession of the Worst Playoff Moment in Vikings History since Gary Anderson’s Shanked Field Goal award.

Seattle squeaked by Minnesota 10-9 in Sunday’s NFC Wildcard game.

“Kevin and I both feel like we missed the kick”, Locke said. That’s on me. I take the blame for that we’ve got to be better. The points were the only ones of the first half for either team, as the two clubs combined for just 185 total yards and 12 first downs.

That mishap allowed Bridgewater to set up a 43-yard attempt for Walsh, who converted to double Minnesota’s lead before striking from 47 to have the Vikings nine points up going into the fourth quarter, when the game was completely turned on its head. But the Seahawks defense stiffened, forcing Minnesota to convert a 22-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. But the game started to turn when Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson completed a 35-yard pass to wide receiver Tyler Lockett on a busted play.

If you could have picked the team that the Panthers least wanted to play of the available three, it was probably Seattle.

The Vikings (11-6) took the ball back with 1:42 left at their 39 and, aided by a pass interference penalty on Kam Chancellor, drove deep into Seattle’s territory. Instead, his 27-yard attempt sailed wide left, sending the Seattle sideline into celebration mode.

Missing the field goal put to an end what was an incredible season for the Minnesota Vikings, which found them winning the NFC North for the first time since 2009 and playing their final season in their temporary home at TCF Bank Stadium.

Every mistake and break was magnified in a game like this, and the Vikings were the benefactors for the majority of the first three quarters. NOTES: Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch did not make the trip after practicing fully all week. Vikings WR Adam Thielen was active after sustaining a shoulder injury against Green Bay last week….
