Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch shelves biopic

It had every sports movie trope (stern father figure, your family motif, young adult mischief) only with bad acting, Lynch, and this classic bit of dialogue between him and a kid.

With Marshawn Lynch firmly in place as the Seattle Seahawks’ workhorse running back, there hasn’t been much room for others to make an impact. Bobino, a family friend who used to help Lynch put together his highlight reels and has “experience” in filmmaking, talked to Rolling Stone about the ordeal and appears to be somewhere between delusional and misinformed, with a dash of legitimately heartbroken over how things turned out.

“My story is the truth, so people know what happened and what I had to deal with”, he told the magazine. On Tuesday, it was revealed by Rolling Stone that production on Family First: The Marshawn Lynch Story has been shut down.

According to Lynch’s agent Doug Hendrickson, Lynch never authorized Bobino to release a trailer.

Bobino said he is working on a script about making the Lynch biopic and the aftermath of his release of the trailer. “Now that it’s considered a failure, everyone is pointing the finger at Mario Bobino”.

Now Bobino is back at work as a juvenile probation officer and all we’re left with is what might have been. But he would always stay close to football, filming high school games and helping kids – including for Lynch and his cousin, Josh Johnson – edit highlight tapes to send to potential colleges.

The director also told Rolling Stone that his relationship with Lynch “will never be the same”. “If that movie had come out and it would have been successful, I would have gotten no credit”.

Bobino posted a trailer to YouTube in February – featuring Lynch but without his consent, he later admitted – and removed it a few days later, reportedly on Lynch’s objections to the trailer’s poor sound, editing and lighting.
