Seahawks win after Vikings miss field goal

On Saturday, Kansas City cruised past Houston and Pittsburgh needed a late field-goal to beat Cincinnati.

If nothing else, give credit to Chaffee for defending her man. Walsh needs the support now more than ever, as his miss already is being considered one of the worst in National Football League playoff history.

Roethlisberger left with a right shoulder injury on the final play of the third quarter but returned for Pittsburgh’s last-gasp drive.

Two plays later, Wilson hit receiver Doug Baldwin on a quick out-route near the pylon for a 3-yard score, narrowing the Vikings’ lead to 9-7.

Steven Hauschka kicked the extra point and then a 46-yard field goal with eight minutes to go to put Seattle ahead for the first time in the game. “I learned a lot from these guys … the veterans all helped me throughout this year. He’s got to make it”, the Associated Press reports. Apparently not heeding the lamentations of Ray Finkle, Vikings holder Jeff Locke had the laces in when Walsh stepped up to kick the football.

Walsh didn’t hide afterward. “I just didn’t put a swing on it that would be acceptable by anybody’s standards”.

Mike Zimmer was blunt. He strolled out for the coin flip in a Vikings cap and a purple short-sleeved polo shirt, looking ready for a round of golf. Seattle will certainly need to win the turnover battle at Bank of America Stadium, or they will have no shot at knocking off the Carolina Panthers while on the road. “We became a snowball, kind of going downhill, and it was tough for us to stop”.

Stymied for much of the game, Peterson lost a critical fumble in the fourth quarter that set Seattle up to take the lead. And it was missing early Sunday, when Washington grabbed an 11-0 lead.

“We’ve seen so often just the magic that comes out of him sometimes”, Carroll, the Seattle coach, said of his quarterback. “And I think that’s what hurts the most is that we don’t get an opportunity to continue to do that”.

Walsh said he was the “only one” who “didn’t do my job”, adding: “I can tell you this – it’s my fault. But you always have to find a way and that’s exactly what we did”.

The Vikings, in fact, controlled most of the affair with a spirited defensive game and just enough offence from Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson to win the time-of-possession and field-position battle. After a 41-yard pass interference penalty called on cornerback Xavier Rhodes, Wilson had Baldwin open behind the defense in the end zone.

The Packers absolutely dominated the Redskins in the second half of Sunday’s game, as their offensive line completely bullied the Redskins front seven, allowing Eddie Lacy and James Starks to take over the game on the ground. Kirk Cousins didn’t throw any interceptions, but at some point, he didn’t really like what the Packers defense had waiting for him.
