Search continues for lion in Milwaukee

It’s been a week since police first started receiving reports of a “lion-like” animal cruising the streets of Milwaukee.

On Tuesday a white pit bull dog was shot in the paw after apparently having been mistaken for the lion reported to have been prowling city streets.

“It’s so elusive”, Danielle Deller of Milwaukee told the Journal Sentinel after she came out to the Lincoln Creek area to look for the animal. Gawkers gathered along a perimeter fence set up as a search got underway in a neighborhood where the mystery animal was last spotted.

“They’re used to people”, he says of his own lions, most kept in captivity at the sanctuary for half a decade or more.

“People have been saying it all over town, and you don’t think, ‘Hmm, OK, if it was a lion they would’ve caught him.’ He’s real”, Love said.

They’re not looking for a person on the run but a possible African lion.

The shooting followed a Monday telephone call to police from a woman who reported seeing a lion in her neighbourhood. Despite an extensive search, the animals weren’t located.
