The man left on a fishing trip at 11am yesterday and the alarm was raised when he failed to return.
The crab fishing boat was 45 nautical miles west of Steep Point when the man was reported missing.
The missing man’s boat was found near L ong Island Bay on Monday night.
The inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats from Baltimore joined the operation along with Coast Guard helicopter 115 from Shannon, the LE Orla Navy ship and the Community Rescue Boat from Schull.
The search for the 40-year-old resumed at first light on Tuesday, with numerous boats and a police fixed wing aircraft scouring the area.
