Search underway for missing JBLM paratrooper

A soldier, who went missing after his parachute malfunctioned in Washington, has been found dead.

The soldier was part of a special forces unit based at Lewis-McChord, KING5 reported, and deployed a reserve parachute during the exercise.

The soldier was from the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, but no other details were immediately available.

The soldier hasn’t been seen since he jumped from the plane.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Police, volunteer search and rescue and the military were among the agencies involved in the search.

Q13 Fox News reports (http://goo.gl/6AzKkS ) that as of Friday night about 110 people were searching in a 6-mile diameter circle of rough terrain and timber using night-vision goggles.

The name of the soldier will not be released until after next-of-kin is notified. ‘We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, and we will do everything in our power to support the family of the fearless soldier who died today’.
