The Coast Guard and other agencies are still searching for a small aircraft that went missing this week.
Brandon Lechthaler says searchers are working under the assumption that the three are alive. Lechtaler said it appears the plane went into the water, and investigators were searching for a location.
WLOX in Biloxi reported Tuesday that wreckage of a plane was found on Belle Fountaine beach in Ocean Springs, MS. Officials have not confirmed if it is the missing single-engine plane.
The debris appeared to include a piece with part of the private plane’s registration number.
Scallan says the Marine Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint search in the Mississippi Sound. Citizens in the Bell Fontaine Beach area notified authorities about the debris they believe to be the tail wing of the plane. The plane lost radar contact less than an hour after takeoff, Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Lally said.
