Seattle college mourns deaths of 4 global students

The crash involved a Bellair charter bus and a 26,000-pound “Ride the Ducks” vehicle.

The four students killed in a school bus crash in Seattle were from China, Austria, Indonesia and Japan, authorities in the U.S. said today.

Derschmidt’s son was not on the bus at the time of the crash, North Seattle College spokeswoman Maria Lamarca Anderson said.

“Once the investigators arrive they’ll hit the ground running”, Weiss said. They and dozens of other students were on a tour of city landmarks, such as Pike Place Market, before classes were set to begin Monday.

She cried as she told reporters from her hospital bed at Harborview Medical Center that her “faith in humanity” was restored by people rushing to their aid. He said several students were in critical condition and other students and an employee were in serious condition. All 11 were in the intensive care unit.

Four others were still at Harborview and were listed in satisfactory condition.

Two people have been discharged after treatment.

Moody said she doesn’t blame the driver and thinks it was just a bad accident.

North Seattle College released the names of the global students killed in the crash.

Meanwhile, a family from Fremont, California, that was on the duck boat said they were thankful for the people who rushed to their aid.

Brown did not say what countries the four students were from. “Landed and got word of the collision, so we’re turning around and heading home”, Johnson told KGMI. He wouldn’t speculate on the cause of the crash.

He said the captains are Coast-Guard certified and licensed as commercial drivers, and are required to take continuing education once a month.

He wasn’t sure whether the duck boats would be allowed to continue in the city.

Boston Duck Tours owns 28 vehicles and has not had a fatality in 21 years of operation, according to WCVB-TV. Initial reports described the accident as a head-on collision.
