SeaWorld accused of infiltrating animal rights group in California

PETA says Facebook photos show the same person – Paul McComb as Thomas Jones on left and McComb on right.

PETA believes that Paul McComb, a human resources employee at SeaWorld, joined PETA’s rallies and demonstrations against his employer under the name Thomas Jones, deliberately befriended activists who were against SeaWorld’s policies and posted messages (such as “burn [SeaWorld] to the ground” and “drain the new tanks at #SeaWorld”) on social media, encouraging people to stimulate violence against the company. “Jones” was even arrested as part of a PETA protest of the 2014 Rose Bowl parade.

PETA’s website is littered with undercover “investigations” that were conducted by the organization. PETA peddles undercover footage from these locations in order to promote an all-vegan agenda and to further its goal of total animal liberation.

“What SeaWorld is doing is trying to stop us from exposing them”, she said in an interview with CBS MoneyWatch. “It’s incredibly suspicious”.

McComb has repeatedly tried to incite animal advocates to act illegally, stating that it’s time for SeaWorld protesters to “get a little aggressive”, to engage in “direct action”, to “grab your pitch forks [sic] and torches”, and to blow horns outside the homes of SeaWorld vice presidents at night.

“It’s definitely him”, Ms Lange said. Box registered to Ric Marcelino, Sea World San Diego’s head of security.

After a subsequent protest in San Diego, PETA activists traced Jones’ license plate to the name Paul McComb. The images appear to be of the same man. A résumé lists McComb as a SeaWorld employee for the past five years.

PETA is constantly targeting places such as zoos, circuses, and farms with espionage.

He added, “These allegations, if true, are not consistent with the values of the SeaWorld organization and will not be tolerated”.

“We are focused on the safety of our team members, guests and animals, and beyond that we do not comment on our security operations”, Fred Jacobs, a SeaWorld spokesman, said Monday in a statement.

SeaWorld Communications Director David Koontz said in a statement that it is a responsibility which everyone must take seriously, especially after the animal rights groups have become increasingly extreme in their rhetoric and tactics.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, is claiming that SeaWorld planted a spy among its ranks in the theme park’s ongoing battle with the animal rights group. He was nowhere to be found when they regrouped after being released. The organization says he “mysteriously disappeared” at the police station and his name never appeared on any police records. We were arrested and booked and all of that, but he just vanished. The Pasadena police department, also, has no arrest records for a Mr. Thomas Jones on that occasion.
