SeaWorld only ending San Diego killer whale show
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Friday that he plans to introduce a bill that would prohibit the breeding of captive orcas, end the capture of wild orcas and stop the import and export of the killer whales.

Butler-Stroud says the shift in public attitude against seeing orcas in captivity means SeaWorld can never restore its tarnished image.
SeaWorld bosses have come under pressure to cancel the killer whale attraction at the aquatic theme park since the release of 2013 documentary “Blackfish”, which highlighted the alleged mistreatment of the animals in captivity.
The Shamu show – named after the original Shamu of the 1960s and early 70s – has been the park’s centrepiece for decades. This after state and federal efforts to put an end to SeaWorld’s captive breeding of the whales. SeaWorld also noted that the new orca experience will also carry messages of conservation to inspire viewers to support the protection of the killer whales.
Manby’s plan for the Orca shows is part of a wider package of measures he hopes will help turn the company around.
SeaWorld San Diego has announced that it will end all shows featuring Orcas doing tricks by 2017.
SeaWorld only said it would phase out its orca shows in San Diego.
By 2017, SeaWorld will replace San Diego’s “One Ocean” orca performance with another orca presentation, said Manby, who said the change was prompted by customer feedback.
Adding: ‘This move is like no longer whipping lions in a circus act but keeping them locked inside cages for life’.
The company said Monday it plans to reinvent the attraction that’s been the center of animal-cruelty claims against SeaWorld.
The company yesterday announced “a new approach” to in-park activities with a focus on veterinary care and animal rescue operations.
He said: ‘They [visitors] want the orca experience to be activities the whales do in the wild.
The Orlando, Fla.-based company did not say whether something similar would follow in its parks in Orlando and San Antonio.

More recently, the California Coastal Commission banned the breeding of killer whales in captivity.
