SEC teams battle to tighten widening gap with No. 1 Alabama

After the loss to the Seminoles, Ole Miss rebounded with a comfortable 38-13 victory over Wofford.

Troy coach Neal Brown is looking for a win this week after his Trojans fell just a touchdown short against highly ranked Clemson. He talked about what a failure the offense has been in gaining 470 yards per game and averaging 45 points.

Alabama defensive line: Rebels offensive coordinator Dan Werner said defensive end is a position the Crimson Tide has really improved at over the years. And there’s no shortage of motivation here for Alabama.

Often, these games determined which team would represent a respective division in the SEC title game. That also was the case in the last two regular-season polls in 2015 before Ole Miss climbed to 10th in the final rankings. However, the margin is a little closer in games played in Oxford. Two years ago, Ole Miss fans rushed the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to celebrate a 23-17 Tide takedown. With Georgia on my mind, the Georgia Tech now unbeaten Yellowjackets entertain Vanderbilt who will look to end the their ACC opponent’s streak at two games. Through two weeks of action, Alabama is tied for seventh in the SEC with an average of 183 rushing yards per game and is only recording 4.4 yards per rush.

The Crimson Tide waited nearly an entire year to meet the Rebels on the field again, and Alabama wanted to set everything straight in 2015.

“The one thing that I like about Jalen is that he’s got a good disposition about playing the next play”.

In the meantime, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze isn’t claiming to have a secret formula for beating Alabama. Georgia will probably win, but not if they are as sloppy as last week. Arkansas hosts Texas State, and should win, but with the Hogs you never know – thought they have looked pretty sporty so far.

He did everything but wring his hands and ask for advice on what to do about Ole Miss’ hurry-hurry offense and quarterback Chad Kelly.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Marlon Humphrey and Eddie Jackson help make up a strong secondary, which is where Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram has noticed the biggest difference with the Crimson Tide’s defense, which has been known for its size and strength in the past. While Hurts has been sharp in his first two starts, a road trip to Oxford isn’t an easy place for a true freshman quarterback to make his first start in an SEC contest.

The run-up to this game exhibits telltale portents of an imminent Alabama massacre.

The 19th-ranked Rebels (1-1) are confident they can beat the Crimson Tide (2-0), and rightfully so.

It should be noted that the Tigers and Daniels lost their next game in 2003, 19-7 to Florida, but they did go on to win the national championship, and Daniels – an OK prospect out of the Miami area – went on to play eight years in the NFL.

In the opener against Florida State, starting cornerback Ken Webster went down with a knee injury.

MS running back Akeem Judd (21) runs for a first down as his teammate wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo (8) blocks down on a Wofford defensive player in the first half of an NCAA college football game in Oxford, Miss., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016. Ole Miss, LSU? Maybe both? They had just two 20-yard plays in the 2014 meeting, but both came in the second half. Last year, Alabama was not able to overcome its turnover problem to complete the comeback.
