Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious because they are uncertain if the attack was random.
Vanessa Marcotte was found dead late Sunday night about half a mile from her mother’s house in Princeton, Mass., where she was visiting for the weekend.
Hundreds of people in this small central MA town packed a church last night to remember a woman who was savagely murdered Sunday on an afternoon jog as they continue to come to grips with the terrifying possibility the slaying could have been random. They reiterated a call for the public’s help, urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area Sunday afternoon to call them.
Princeton Police Chief Michelle Powers said, “We are concerned about the safety of our town residents and the visitors that enter our town”. Both women, one in NY and one in Princeton, were jogging alone through secluded areas, both were pulled into the woods and both were stripped of their clothes and killed. We’re taking the information as it comes in. When she failed to return home, authorities launched a missing person’s search around 4 p.m. That’s all we want: “Justice”, John Marcotte, father of Vanessa Marcotte, told the Boston Globe at his home on Tuesday. She said the slaying has unnerved the town, known for the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area.
“In honor of her being a beam of light and for the family”, Bennett said.
“It couldn’t have happened to a nicer person”, said Justine Popkik, who went to high school with Marcotte. Her body was found “stripped and damaged” with burns on her hands, feet and face.
A vigil is planned for Marcotte in Princeton Tuesday night.

When asked if investigators are considering Marcotte’s death related to the recent murder of Karina Vetrano, the 30-year-old woman killed while jogging through a park in Queens, New York last week, Worcester County District Attorney Spokesman Tim Connolly said, “We have ruled nothing out yet”.
