But numerous protesters at the event said they were there to stop Trump from speaking.

An attendee caught security personnel removing a protestor from the event. For more than an hour before the event was to begin, security teams led protesters out, one by one, but many more remained, sparring with Trump supporters.

Donald Trump on Saturday called for protesters who demonstrate at his rallies to be arrested by police.

Kasich previously has said he would support Trump if the real estate mogul is the party’s nominee.

US President Barack Obama has warned White House contenders to avoid raising tensions, a day after a rally by Donald Trump was called off amid clashes.

One sign held by a protester inside the arena said “We are not rapists”, referring to Trump’s characterisation previous year of Mexicans as rapists. Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Associated Press that they had adequate officers on hand.

According to the Trump campaign’s website, Donald Trump has upcoming rallies schedule for today in Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio, and tonight in Kansas City, Missouri.

“When you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence”, Texas Senator Cruz said, “you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse”.

“I hope they arrest these people because they’re really violating all of us”, Trump said at a rally here during which dozens of protesters were ejected from the venue by police.

After rattling the Republican establishment with his shock emergence as the man to beat, Trump has been working hard in recent days to look presidential and shake off his brash, belligerent image. But it said the protest was the “direct result of the violence that has occurred at Trump rallies and that has been repeatedly encouraged by Trump himself from the stage”.

While some may claim that the protests in Chicago were an example of the fringe left being uber-liberal and gross about their beliefs, we saw an example of that in Dayton instead.

Trump says a rally in Cincinnati planned for Sunday is still on despite the concerns about violence that canceled last night’s rally.

“I certainly do not condone that at all”, Trump said, adding, “We have some protesters who are bad dudes”. Police reported arresting five people. “And that’s why I put out the statement before, and it said go home in peace”.

There’s “no place for a national leader to prey on the fears of people”, he said.

Trump vowed that he would win Ohio’s primary, describing the state’s governor and fellow presidential candidate John Kasich as weak on immigration. On Friday night, speaking to Fox News, Trump likened the display to Chicago’s 1968 Democratic Convention riot. Protests are covered as a fundamental exercise of free speech. Many anti-Trump attendees had rushed onto the floor of the University of IL at Chicago Pavilion, jumping up and down with their arms up in the air.

Critics warned that Trump’s inflammatory language set the tone for the violence, and urged him to tone down the campaign rhetoric.
