Protesters against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump celebrate after it was announced that a rally for Trump was canceled due to security concerns on the campus of the University of Illinois-Chicago, Friday. “Thousands and thousands of people, they caused no problem.

Before the announcement the event wouldn’t take place, a handful of intense verbal clashes took place between Trump supporters and protesters as the crowd waited for his arrival.

But Chicago police had not recommended Trump cancel the rally.

Asked by CNN interviewer Don Lemon if he would take back anything he had said, Trump said: “Now, getting back to before tonight, when I talked about illegal immigration, I have no regrets whatsoever”. Vermont senator Bernie Sanders is continuing his challenge against frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

At Trump’s rally earlier Friday in St. Louis, he was repeatedly interrupted by protesters.

Ted Cruz, second in delegates to Trump in the Republican race, said the billionaire has created “an environment that encourages this sort of nasty discourse”.

Donald Trump has blamed organised “thugs” for the protests that led him to cancel his campaign rally in Chicago, adding the incident has “energised America”.

“So, Trump is supposed to be in Kansas City tomorrow and I will definitely be protesting”, one person tweeted. “They don’t talk about what’s really happing in these forums and these rooms and these stadiums”, Trump said.

“I feel a lot of hate”, she said.

Five arrests were made and two police officers were injured. “Time and again we’ve watched the Republican front-runner rile up his supporters with calls to violence, sometimes subtle, sometimes explicit, usually directed at minorities, and always un-presidential”, said Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

And she says this message can be conveyed peacefully, without the violence seen in Chicago on Friday night.
