An official said that the army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off Harpura mohalla of Gasu village in the district last evening after specific inputs about the presence of militants. With a motive to give security forces a slip, the underground terrorists tried to escape from the house at around 3 AM.
The spokesman identified one of the slain militant as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Aloochibagh, Kakapore. Official sources said top Hizbul commander, Burhan, is also believed to be trapped inside the cordon laid around the area.
Two AK47 rifles, four magazines of AK 47 and other war-like stores were recovered from the site of the encounter.
The militants were affiliated to the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, the official said.
The militants, who were holed up at a residential building in the locality, started firing when they were challenged.
A fierce gunfight is on between the security forces and the terrorists in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening.
