Security forum brings Trump and Clinton weaknesses to the fore

Clinton’s campaign manager went on to attack Trump Thursday morning on GMA, arguing that Trump doesn’t have a strategy to combat ISIS.

The GOP nominee faced questions about his own preparedness to lead the military, and about assertions he has made in the past that he “know [s] more about ISIS than the generals do”. Trump was asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s praise for him.

MATT LAUER: you recently received two intelligence briefings.

LAUER: So let me read some of the things you’ve said. “I’ve already said he is really very much of a leader”. Trump contributed $2 million to the campaign, CNN reported, and the Washington Post added that million came from small donations.

“I have a plan …” In some cases, as with his plans to defeat the Islamic State group, Trump says they’re purposefully shrouded in secrecy.

During Obama’s first term, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton served as his Secretary of State.

Trump also said Wednesday night he thinks that under the “leadership of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the generals have been reduced to rubble” and, in the past, he has claimed to “know more about ISIS than the generals”.

With less than three weeks until the debate, Trump seemed at ease with the freewheeling style he has often demonstrated on the campaign trail.

“What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?” Clinton grew defensive over questions about past support for the Iraq War, constantly trying to “pre-but” her rival’s later appearance at the town hall. She also fleshed out several national security priorities if she is elected, including trying to take out the leader of the Islamic State and vowing to defeat the extremist group without putting US troops on the ground in Iraq or Syria. In an interview last week Wallace said, “I do not believe that it’s my job to be a truth squad”.

“I will ask Congress to fully offset the cost of increased military spending”.

CLINTON: Well, Matt, first of all, as I have said repeatedly, it was a mistake to have a personal account. He trash talked Americans, she said in a news conference with reporters announced at the last minute. “We have to squeeze them by continuing to support the Iraqi military”. He even said that the United States is a divided country. They’ve gotta hold them.

Trump also angered many in the military community with mocking remarks against U.S. senator and former prisoner of war John McCain for being captured in Vietnam. The evening also highlighted the hard road ahead for the debate moderators, as NBC anchor Matt Lauer refused to correct Trump’s false assertions that he never supported the Iraq War or the Libya intervention.
