Security tight at Trump Eugene rally site

The Donald Trump “Trump Train” rolls toward the November general election with another huge rally Saturday, this one in Washington State where the event will stream live from the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds – and is expected to pull a capacity crowd of approximately 5,000 people to the outdoor grandstand there. And though she’s considering voting for Sanders, she’ll never cast her ballot for Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner.

Trump is calling Warren a “goofus” and a “basket case”, and says “she’s done nothing in the United States Senate”.

Protesters in a liberal university town shouted “Dump Trump” and argued with supporters of the billionaire businessman as the likely Republican presidential nominee brought his divisive, but popular, campaign to an OR rally Friday.

Trump became the presumptive Republican presidential nominee this week when his two remaining competitors, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, bowed out of the race after the NY businessman’s strong performance in Tuesday’s in primary.

“The thing that matters most are the millions of people that have come out to vote for me and give me a landslide victory in nearly every state”, Trump said moments after Ryan announced their planned meeting.

Trump cited numbers illustrating the decline of rural Oregon’s timber industry, blaming federal regulations. “She would go after these women and destroy their lives”, Trump said, adding, “She was an unbelievably nasty, mean enabler, and what she did to a lot of those women is disgraceful”.

Mike Scholten, 29, said Trump isn’t a politician and he appreciated that Trump paid for part of his own campaign because it doesn’t make him beholden to outside interests.

Without going into deep policy proposals, Trump touched on his signature issues throughout the hourlong speech, including trade, immigration and his infamous feud with Fox News personality Megyn Kelly. Jeb Bush and Sen.

Supporters began arriving hour early for the event. And none of Oregon’s elected Republicans appeared, perhaps another indication that Trump’s candidacy has fractured the Republican Party and has seen his voters rejecting establishment orthodoxy.

Deriding a culture of political correctness in which, he says, men are “petrified to speak to women anymore”, Trump also defended himself as a great supporter of women and sought to downplay past comments he’s made about women in venues like the Howard Stern radio show in the days before he was a politician. “She’s bad”, he said.

The speech was briefly interrupted several times by protesters scattered throughout the crowd.

And many party leaders, desperate to remain relevant even as their base snubs them, unwring their hands to extend Mr. Trump their welcome.

Police on megaphones were asking the protesters to disperse.

Outside, at least 200 people gathered in Monroe Park, some holding signs inscribed with the Twitter hashtag #DumpTrump.

Others came to protest Trump, and dozens held signs referencing Trump’s statements about building a wall on the border with Mexico, and they lined the gates of the events center as attendees streamed in by foot and auto.

“When he comes here to spew his hate, we have to push back”, Miranda said. “The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill”.

During a phone interview, Paredones and Akilah Powell, 23, an African-American student at the University of OR who is co-administrator of the Facebook page, said they do not plan to attend the 7 p.m. rally itself, out of concerns for their safety.
