Apart from the routine checks by the police using hand-held metal detectors, bomb disposal squads and SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) teams have been deployed for checking in buses and at bus stations. Earlier on May 26, an explosion had taken place on a state roadways bus in Pipli near Kurukshetra, in which eight people were hurt. When asked if the explosion bore any similarity to the earlier incident, the Fatehabad SP said, “At this stage, we can not comment on that”.

He, however, said according to preliminary accounts gathered from the spot, it appeared some passenger was carrying a chemical powder which caught fire either because of smoking or some other reason. This was the fourth such incident in the state this year. Directions have also been issued to private bus operators to install such cameras.
