Security tighter at Florida courthouse after suspect escapes
So far seven people have been arrested in connection with the escape.

Davis ordered her held without bond until her July 26 hearing before her trial judge, that her phone calls are monitored except for those with counsel and to have no contact with the co-defendants.
“Well, he’s raising the issue with me, and so now my concern is that he may be a danger to himself”, Davis said. “I can’t have this gentleman interacting with any other inmates”. At that point, Davis ordered a mental health evaluation despite objections from Resiles’ attorney, Dohn Williams, who argued that the evaluation could become unfavorable evidence in the murder case.
Broward County Courthouse inmate escapee Dayonte Resiles has been arrested after being found in West Palm Beach, Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirms.
Surrounded by a SWAT team at a West Palm Beach motel, Resiles surrendered peacefully late Wednesday night; thus ended one of the most intensive manhunts in South Florida history.
“He came out of the room”. “He allowed us to handcuff him”.
No force was necessary, the sheriff said.
The drama first unfolded last Friday morning on the fourth floor of the downtown Broward Courthouse, where Resiles was supposed to attend a hearing on whether he will face the death penalty for the 2014 slaying of Jill Halliburton Su.
Resiles was sitting in the jury box when he escaped his shackles, jumped a courtroom barrier and ran past bailiffs. He was able to take off his jumpsuit, handcuffs and shackles as he fled.
Investigators immediately assumed he must have had help and began making a series of arrests.
Resiles’ cousin, Francine Mesadieu, 31, and his friend, Paige Jackson, 18, both of Fort Lauderdale, were arrested Wednesday. Jail records show Resiles made at least 15 calls to Jackson’s number, many of them to others implicated in the escape plot.
Investigators say the escape was carefully planned by Resiles and his accomplices.
Among other alleged accomplices: Walter Hart III, a suspect in an unrelated killing, who is accused of helping Resiles unlatch his waist chain in a holding area prior to being escorted into the courtroom of Circuit Judge Raag Singhal. They are charged with escape and accessory after the fact to capital murder.
Two 17-year-old twin brothers were in the courtroom when Resiles broke for the door.
Resilies’ 18-year-old girlfriend and four others are believed to be involved in the escape.
“Though this change requires significant logistical coordination, I am confident this change will make the courthouse safer and lessen the chance of inmate escape”, he said in his statement.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel called the escape “pre-planned”. Israel says some people may be eligible for a $50,000 reward seeking information leading to Resiles’ capture.
