For the second year in a row, Noah was the country’s most popular name for a baby boy in 2015 and Emma the most popular name for girls, according to statistics released Friday by the U.S. Social Security Administration.
WASHINGTON (AP) – When it comes to baby names, Americans seem to be somewhat united: Emma and Noah are tops.
Liam and Olivia retain the second-place spots from 2014, while Mason and Sophia remain in third place.
For the first time in over 20 years, the girls’ name Isis has dropped off the list of top 1,000 names to land at 1,770th.
In fact, Tyler – the most popular boy name in Oklahoma in 1996 – doesn’t even make the state’s Top 100 now. Check out the full top 10 lists below.
Beyond the top 10, less-traditional names are also on the rise.
Emma and Noah are queens and kings again.
The biggest decliners in boys’ and girls’ names tend to be variations on popular names – Rylee, for instance. Also boosting the name, actress Emma Watson played Hermione Granger in the popular Harry Potter movies.
Noah, on the other hand, has biblical roots.
Meilani, Adaline and Zelda are also growing in popularity.
