Seen and heard at Big Ten Media Days
Maybe I felt better about myself than I really should have, but I think that was a positive.

Standing by him for 20 minutes during a press conference, Motivational Speaker Harbaugh, Sarcastic Harbaugh, and Football Coach Harbaugh all made an appearance. In the meantime, however, MI opens its season with Hawaii on September 3.
“My default is usually yes”, Harbaugh said. On Monday, though, he was playful and animated, wiling to talk more at length about his team and other issues.
“At Stanford, from Day One, I realized that he was a fabulous coach”, Harbaugh recalled. Lloyd Carr is still coaching MI and Jim Tressel is still at Ohio State.
When told it was a real word, he said “Shoot”.
We’re talking about the guy who wrestles recruits and appears in music videos. And he likened his depth chart to a meritocracy.
“Intensity, a lot of words that I can’t say right now”, Lewis said. “Gosh, I thought a made that up”, Harbaugh said, snapping his finger and shaking his head in disappointment.
But genuinely, Harbaugh has turned himself into a celebrity, and he shouldn’t apologize for that.
His brand has never been more popular.
He battled the NCAA over holding satellite camps across the country and took verbal shots at Alabama coach Nick Saban and Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith on Twitter. “You feel what he’s bringing to the program”. We saw what a drop in weight could do for Le’Veon. That’s really what it is.
“He was definitely one of the best, if not the best coach we had on the Stanford staff”, Harbaugh said of Durkin, who was a defensive ends coach and special teams coordinator on Harbaugh’s staff from 2007 to 2009. He has a method to his madness.
Monday was another opportunity for Harbaugh to “attack the day with enthusiasm unknown to mankind”, the message he branded shortly after taking over at his alma mater in January 2015.
The Big Ten West offers two darkhorses, with the Iowa Hawkeyes and Nebraska Cornhuskers each listed at +900 on the college football betting lines. There are plenty of questions. Durkin will be returning to “The Big House” November 5th with the Terrapins. Harbaugh reiterated that the race remains open, with Houston transfer John O’Korn, redshirt sophomore Wilton Speight and redshirt junior Shane Morris all vying for the starting role. “It’s going to be a great feeling, seeing Coach Durkin again”. MI is counting on Houston transfer John O’Korn to deliver the ball to their trio of senior receivers that includes tight end Jake Butt. It was definitely advantageous for Harbaugh to be a part of it to put more attention on the song, especially for recruiting purposes. He called Butt “gung-ho”. It would be a stretch to say the manic MI man was relaxed, but he certainly seemed comfortable and confident heading into Year 2.
“It’s good people outside are recognizing the talent we have, but it doesn’t mean anything if when the season comes we don’t get wins”, senior wide receiver Amara Darboh said.
-Smith also talked up the play of linebacker Dawuane Smoot and running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn and thinks Smoot should be ranked as one of the best players in the nation. Nebraska coach Mike Riley was to have brought Tommy Armstrong, Josh Banderas and Jordan Westerkamp to Chicago for Big Ten Media Day, but the coach and players withdrew from the event due to the tragic death of punter Sam Foltz in a vehicle accident.

In the last two days, the Cubs and the Big Ten commissioner have sent the awful message that in far too many places, the quest for championships trumps decency. None of those players will upstage Harbaugh, though. We have big dreams. We want our goals to be lofty. “All those are achievable”, he said. They, too, sense something is at work here.
