Sega Mega Drive console with 80 built-in games goes up for preorder
Not one to be left out, SEGA is throwing its hat in the ring with the latest iteration of the Mega Drive Classic Game Console (or for those of in the US, the Genesis name should perhaps sound a bit more familiar).

That same month, Prima, best known for their strategy guides, will release Playing With Power: Nintendo NES Classics, a book that should make a strong companion for the NES Mini.
What sets Sega’s consoles apart from Nintendo’s device, however, is its genuine usefulness for those interested in playing some retro games.
Judging from the box art, it appears that this latest edition of the Mini Drive Classic Game Console was introduced to commemorate the 25 anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog – on that note, you’ll find no less than 5 Sonic titles on the console.
You can’t blame Nintendo for pandering to our lust for nostalgia. The console comes with two controllers, compared to the single gamepad that ships with the Mini NES. You can also load additional game ROMs on an SD cards and enjoy them on the portable console. The console costs about $65 Dollars, as does the handheld version, and comes packed with 80 integrated games including Mortal Kombat 1 – 3, a handful of Sonic games, Golden Axe 1 – 3, and a bunch more.

This isn’t the first time Sega has launched a mini Mega Drive, but now there’s clearly a passion for it following on from Nintendo’s announcement, it seems that Sega feel now is the time to redouble its retro efforts.
