According to the Orlando Police Department, Grimmie was performing with the band, Before You Exit, on their All the Lights tour, and after the show, she and some band members stayed to sign autographs.

Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, immediately tackled the gunman, who then shot and killed himself during the struggle.

The police chief added: “He came here to commit this crime and had plans to travel back to where he came from”. Mina suggested that the killer may have been a deranged fan, but said the precise motive is not known.

Loibl travelled to Orlando with two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife.

“When she was 14, we met her – my parents and I signed her”, Gomez said.

Before the show, she posted a video on her Twitter account encouraging fans to attend.

“Very heroic actions by Marcus Grimmie to jump in and it definitely could have prevented further loss of life”, Mina said.

After shooting Christina, Loibl was tackled to the ground by Christina’s brother Marcus, and the shooter killed himself. Around 120 others were in The Plaza Live at the time.

Grimmie’s publicist Heather Weiss told The Associated Press in an email that “we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord”.

A spokeswoman said all events at the venue had been suspended until further notice.

Fellow The Voice judges have also paid tribute to the young singer, with Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton also taking to social media to share their shock and sorry.

“They were only a year apart and he would always talk about how he would do anything for her”.

Christina – who appeared on season six of “The Voice USA” – first found fame as a teenager for her renditions of hit songs, which led to her developing a huge following on YouTube.

Marcus also shared a photo of him and his sister using the face swap feature on Snapchat, as well as artwork a fan did of the late singer.

Fans of Christina angrily replied, calling the tweet insensitive and believing the message came from her management team. He ended by saying: “Thank you all so, so much”.
