Sen. and Comedian Team Up on Gun Control

The senator said the country can not “just sit back and allow mass shootings to become commonplace in the United States”.

The politician had earlier taken the matter to social media, tweeting: “74% of Americans want stronger background checks”. “Unless something is done and done soon, risky people will continue to get their hands on guns and we know what happens when they do”.

“When I heard about the news, I was completely devastated … then I was mad”, the actor said during a press conference. “But I’m not sure”, she said.

Schumer eulogized the victims, describing Magazine Street business owner Jillian Johnson as “an artistic force in the community”, adding, “I think we would have been friends”.

Sen. Schumer is trying to establish financial incentives to encourage states to cooperate with the gun background check system.

The actress says “hate” directed at her is nothing new, especially as she has broached hot-button political issues in her comedy routines before.

This weekend, Sarah Clements, both an Amy Schumer fan and the daughter of a Sandy Hook survivor, wrote an open letter to Schumer, calling for her to be a vocal advocate for gun control.
