Sen. Elizabeth Warren says black lives matter, backs body cameras

“She was willing to give the speech that other politicians seem to be afraid to give, which is to say that black humanity matters without equivocation”, said Brittany Packnett, a Black Lives Matter activist and member of President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.

Returning to Warren, she also seeks to stoke the fires of racial division – a sure victor for Democrats in an election year – by invoking all sorts of dire images without providing any context for them and how they are resolved.

Warren said the civil rights movement already declared black lives matter by winning blacks the right to vote and pushing for laws to protect blacks from violence and ensure economic opportunity (in employment, public accommodations and housing).

Leaders of the movement say they plan to prevent runners from completing the 26-mile run. Black Lives Matter organizer Rashad Turner says anyone that “believes that a person’s journey to completing a marathon is more important than our journey to being liberated as a people, you are under the mind control of white supremacy, and it’s time to free yourself”. “It engenders a diverse, generational movement”.

Judge Greg Mathis, who starred in his own nationally-syndicated court show, also chimed in.

“This puts the movement in an terrible light”, Oliver said. “[It was] definitely a more accurate historic view in terms of linking the civil rights movement and the current movement as not being very separate, [but] as a continuation of a few of the same struggle”.

This past weekend, demonstrators marched to the gates of the Minnesota State Fair, raised a banner reading “Black Lives Matter” and chanted, “Pigs in a blanket!”

Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Gardner, and Tamir Rice were common names being thrown around by the panelists, as Martin reminded the audience that there has been no action taken, an entire year after Tamir Rice was murdered.

Warren did this through a deft combination of historical analysis and policy brief, noting, “Coming out of the Great Depression, America built a middle class, but systematic discrimination kept most African-American families from being part of it”. Consider law enforcement. The vast majority of police officers sign up so they can protect their communities. And it’s not just about law enforcement either.

But then, Republicans’ trickle-down economic theory arrived.

According to the NAACP Criminal Justice Fact sheet, African Americans make up approximately 13% of the American population, while minorities as a whole make up about 60% of the incarceration population. Only through presenting and discussing opposing viewpoints can changes be made in society.

Since the early 1970’s there, has been a 700% increase in the US prison population. “I just completely disagree with their method of doing so”. “We ask for your patience as we work on this, and want to reiterate that your safety is our highest priority”, said Charlie Mahler, a spokesperson for Twin Cities in Motion. We need to start thinking of it it as unusual if a community is committing more effort to smoking out the kinds of people who killed Freddie Gray, rather than the kind of people who are killing one another, too. In his first speech on the floor of the Senate, just four months after his brother’s assassination, he stood up to support equal rights for all Americans.

“The fusing of the economic and racial justice is both historic and contemporary”, said Dr. Peniel Joseph, a history professor and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Tufts University. That Black Families Matter.

This comes weeks after a Republican district attorney in Houston blamed the Black Lives Matter Movement for the brutal killing of Deputy Darren Goforth. They raise money and positive awareness through running for so many important causes – from sponsored teams like World Vision to smart phone apps that donate per mile to a charity. There was an absence of a full-throated repudiation of “broken windows” policing – the popular policing model of swarming communities with police officers and aggressively pursuing fines and arrests for minor infractions.

But none of that will register with the people Warren is trying to reach.

Elizabeth Warren just gave the speech that Black Lives Matter activists have
