Sen. Rubio against abortions for pregnant women infected with Zika, reports say

The health department believes that the most unsafe transmission region for the virus is one square mile (3sq km) in Wynwood neighbourhood in North Miami. Hawaii has no locally acquired Zika cases at this time, and no mosquitoes transmitting the disease within the state.

As confirmed Zika cases creep up Florida’s east coast, Gov. Rick Scott is calling for prevention of the mosquito-borne virus to begin in the classroom.

Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party’s candidate, will be in the Wynwood neighborhood in the afternoon, visiting the Borinquen Medical Center, a health clinic that has been treating people in the area for over a month.

This year, the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed a total of 10 imported cases throughout the state.

Six new travel related cases were identified, including two in Miami-Dade County, by the state’s Department of Health on Monday. From these 55, 15 of them are infected in the local outbreak while some other cases of Zika in Florida are related to travel out of Florida.

Because no vaccine exists to prevent Zika, the best way to protect yourself from the disease is to avoid getting bit by Zika-carrying mosquitoes.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said Monday that he opposes abortions for women infected with Zika, citing his belief that “all human life is worthy of protection of our laws”. The travel warning is particularly focused on pregnant women or women who are trying to become pregnant, due to Zika’s connection to microcephaly – a congenital disorder that results in a smaller head size and potential brain damage in infants.

Miami-Dade Mosquito Control has been using a particular insecticide called “Naled” for decades and said they have been doing so safely.

Visit Florida said the safety of visitors, who totaled 106 million previous year, remained the “highest priority” for the state’s tourism industry.

“Zika has been that thing in Brazil or Miami”, Jothi said.

Clinton’s visit comes as Republicans and Democrats spar over funding that is needed to continue the fight against Zika.

The Zika virus has also raised questions about abortion, given the link between the virus and microcephaly in babies born of infected women.

Clinton, who supports the bill, has previously addressed the congressional gridlock in a Sun Sentinel op-ed, where she wrote that Congress “needs to act quickly to provide federal emergency funding”.
