Senate Approves Bill To Cripple Obamacare Law

Anti-abortion lawmakers cited the videos as proof that Planned Parenthood must be shut down, but failed in their attempt to cut off federal funding in September and October.

Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, also praised the Senate’s approval of the legislation that would transfer taxpayer Medicaid money from Planned Parenthood to health care clinics that do not perform abortions. The legislation aims to deal with GOP objections to ACA and Planned Parenthood through reconciliation rather than the omnibus spending bill, where a standoff with Democrats could again raise the specter of a government shutdown. If the House accepts and President Obama signs the bill, it would begin to unravel the destructive coverage provisions of the law-the parts of the law that the public is acutely aware of, but not the hidden parts of the law that are causing extensive damage to personal control over health care decisions and the trusted and confidential patient-doctor relationship. It also rejected an amendment by Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, that would “expand background checks for guns purchased online and at gun shows” (48 to 50) and one by John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, that would have delayed suspected terrorists from getting a gun for as long as 72 hours, by a 55-44 vote. Johnson also says the federal exchange that Wisconsin uses has narrower and fewer choices for health policies. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., and Susan Collins, R-Me., were the only Republicans to vote against the legislation. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., did not vote.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski set aside a failed attempt to remove a provision defunding Planned Parenthood from a bill repealing major portions of Obamacare to vote in favor of the total package late Thursday. If the reconciled legislation passes the lower chamber, it will be the first time Congress has successful sent a bill to dismantle the landmark heath-care legislation to the president’s desk. They’re mounting pressure on the Department of Justice to investigate last week’s shooting at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado as Domestic Terrorism. Obama’s law was enacted five years ago; Republicans haven’t produced a detailed proposal to replace it. Jon Tester, D-Mont., who heads the Senate Democratic campaign committee, said of the GOP’s failure to propose an alternative.

“We’ve reached a pretty scary time in our nation’s history where we have Americans writing and calling their elected representatives saying they need relief from their own government”, said Sen.

They further added that the Republicans lack the majority vote necessary to overrule the Veto.
