Senate Expected To Pass Bill To Defund Planned Parenthood, Repeal Health Law
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, is working to get the Republican White House hopefuls and other conservatives to “yes” on a vehicle that he feels has the best chance of getting to Obama’s desk – unlike the more than 50 other times the House or Senate has voted to repeal the health care law.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Senate Republicans have overwhelmed Democrats in a vote to end Planned Parenthood’s federal funding. “Women, men, and young people deserve to be able to access reproductive health care free from violence, threats, or intimidation, and we’ll make sure they can get the care they need and deserve”. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., told NPR before the vote took place.
Final Senate approval could come Thursday.
I can not believe I had to go back to the Senate floor today to talk about another Republican scheme to defund Planned Parenthood.
The bill also would strip federal funding from Planned Parenthood, which has been under attack by conservatives since anti-abortion activists released undercover videos earlier this year allegedly showing group officials talking about selling tissue from aborted fetuses.
“Republicans are forcing another show vote on repeal”, he said. And Democrats say the GOP exercise is a partisan charade aimed at setting up Republicans to use the health care law as a wedge issue in the election campaign next year.
It’s though that the Senate will send the bill to the President but the White House has pledged that he will veto it.
House Republicans have voted more than 50 times to repeal or delay the law, which Congress enacted with only Democratic votes.
The Senate version of H.R. 3762 also would repeal the health law’s medical device tax and the so-called “Cadillac tax” on high-cost insurance plans.
First, though, the Senate will have to jump through the procedural hoops, which call for 20 hours of debate and the legendary vote-o-rama, a frenzy of rapid-fire amendments.
On Planned Parenthood, Senator Mazie Hirono, a Hawaii Democrat, said the defunding effort was “just one part of the Republican anti-women agenda”.
As it stands, Planned Parenthood receives $450 million of its $1.3 billion annual budget from federal funds.
They also warned Republicans to leave Planned Parenthood alone, now and in the future.
Senators voted by a 54-45 margin to reject the amendment by Sen.
If a Muslim immigrant had committed this act of terrorism (which is exactly what it is), these hypocritical and opportunistic GOP candidates would be jumping over each other to find the nearest microphone and TV camera. Ted Cruz, Texas and Marco Rubio, Florida, as well as Sen.

Additionally, in Planned Parenthood’s 2013-2014 Annual Report they reported more than $127 million in excess revenue and more than $1.4 billion in net assets. Federal dollars cannot be used for abortions except for rare exceptions.
