Senate Republicans Grapple With The Reality Of Presumptive Nominee Trump
Donald Trump and Sarah Palin are teaming up to take down former 2012 GOP running mates, Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney.

A senior Republican official told NBC News that Trump’s tone and rhetoric will be discussed at the meetings. But, he added, “There’s a body of American heroes that I would. like to see him retract that statement, not about me, but about the others”. Don’t know him well.
Ryan, facing a pro-Trump Republican primary challenge in his own congressional district, described the forces backing his rival as “outside agitators”. “But have a nice relationship with him”. “Then all of sudden the microphones are in everybody’s face saying, ‘Are you on board?'” “So I’m not exactly sure what he has in mind”.

Not only did the newspaper quote Ryan as saying he would step down if Donald Trump asked him to, but he also said that he never called Donald to talk after the NY primary, something that Trump claimed happened.
Of course, it’s also possible that Ryan’s offer to do what Trump wants is what it seems to be on the surface – an olive branch.
“So in other words, you think they’re justified in pivoting like this”.

“He deserves every bit of credit for what he’s accomplished, but I think at the same time, it’s important to understand that there are a lot of conservatives who felt alienated in the process or who are not there right now”, he said. John McCain, also of Arizona, said he will support the GOP nominee, but will not attend July’s convention.
Asked today about Trump’s comments, Ryan told Wisconsin’s largest newspaper he’ll “do whatever he wants with respect to the convention”. Both Trump and Ryan will find something positive to say about the meeting for the television cameras.
Palin, who endorsed Trump in January, said she believed Ryan was now hurting his political aspirations in his refusal to support Trump.
Instead, the committee on permanent organization puts forward a name, which gets voted on by the full convention on the floor. Sarah Palin has been the most vocal, saying Ryan has “disrespected the will of the American people”.
Nehlen’s campaign said it was “delighted” by the support.
Carson said he and Ryan discussed entitlement programs and Trump’s tax plan.
“Donald Trump is not wanting to rewrite the platform, okay?”

Until the results of the IN primary became apparent, Ryan said he expected the Republican National Convention to be contested, with no candidate as the presumptive nominee heading into the convention. “Every single robocall I made, he won that state”. That’s why, Trump explained, he was “blindsided” when Ryan said he wasn’t ready to back a Trump ticket. Jeb Bush said Friday he would not vote for Trump.
