Senate Republicans on the spot over Trump comments on Khan
Trump has not yet apologized for his comments, leading the families to send the letter in solidarity with the Khans.

Mr Khan told MSNBC that he and his wife felt it was their “moral duty” to speak out against Mr Trump, and it would have been a “burden on our souls” if they failed to do so.
However, the edition held up by Khizr Khan during his speech is not the same as the hot seller at Amazon but one published by the National Center for Constitutional Studies.
“We know there isn’t anything we can say or do that will bring their loved one back”, Gibson wrote. “I will lend you my copy”, Khan said.
This is the first time Pence has spoken about the topic, having previously deferred questions to Trump’s campaign.
“That is not the value of this country”, added Khan, a Muslim- American attorney who immigrated with his wife and son to the USA from Pakistan. Trump stoked outrage by implying Ghazala Khan did not speak while standing alongside her husband at last week’s Democratic convention because she is a Muslim woman. “You think it’s a good idea?” “Captain [Humayun] Khan, like many heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice, will be forever remembered for their service in protecting the freedoms we cherish in America”.
Trump has previously said McCain shouldn’t be regarded as a war hero for being imprisoned in Vietnam, saying “I like people who weren’t captured”. “His sacrifice – and that of Khizr and Ghazala Khan – should always be honored”.
Khan’s father spoke at last week’s Democratic convention, describing how his son, a Muslim, gave his life to save his fellow soldiers. No Republicans, however, withdrew their support from Trump and a few defended the Khan family while not mentioning Trump by name.
“To go and see this captain that had sacrificed so much, it was really moving”, she said.
“In recent days, Donald Trump disparaged a fallen soldier’s parents”, McCain said.
Obama also spoke up for Gold Star families, joining the throngs of Democrats and Republicans who have been berating Donald Trump for reacting to the Kahn family who launched a public attack against him. A Washington Post report said Martinez criticized Trump at an event at the “mansion of billionaire David Koch”.
Trump also tweeted that he had been “viciously attacked” by Khan at the convention.

“This story is not about Mr. Khan, who is all over the place doing interviews, but rather RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM and the U.S. Get smart!”
