Senate Votes To Defund Planned Parenthood, Obama Vows To Veto

Many say they’ve lost count and aren’t sure this vote on Restoring Americans’ Health Care Freedom Reconciliation Act in the Senate will change anything, saying the president will veto it.

After months of wrangling over deadlines for the reconciliation process, the Senate agreed to start the process in concert with a previous budget resolution that was passed earlier this year that stipulated House and Senate committees finding $1 billion in savings.

The Obama administration has previously said that the president would veto any legislation that repeals Obamacare. By repealing numerous, key elements of current law, this legislation would take away critical benefits and health care coverage from hard-working middle-class families. Dean Heller, R-Nev., that would repeal taxes set to be imposed in 2018 on expensive “Cadillac” insurance plans provided by employers. The amendment drew wide support from both Republicans and Democrats and passed 90-10. Planned Parenthood has denied the allegations.

In the Senate, Democrats and several liberal Republicans tried but failed to gut the language that defunds Planned Parenthood from the bill. “We’re focused on providing high-quality, compassionate health care to people all across this country, and we won’t be deterred by violence, smear campaigns, or cynical political attacks like this”. This speaks volumes about the Republicans in Congress. They care more about pleasing the NRA than truly honoring the victims.

Instead, she said that what the legislators did was give the people the “cold shoulder of indifference”. Republicans offered alternatives to each and they were blocked as well.

“The vote we took today is a significant step towards repealing every word of Obamacare”, Cruz said in a statement following its passage.

For Cruz, those sentiments apply to this week’s Senate bill, his office said Wednesday. “What they’re doing on the reconciliation is going nowhere”. “He can defend a status quo that’s failed the middle class by vetoing the bill, or he can work toward a new beginning and better care by signing it. “Republicans blame the bill for surging health care prices & insurers abandoning some markets”.

Republicans argued voters were on their side. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Sen.

UPDATE: Amendment preventing those on the terror watch list from buying firearms fails, only gets 45 votes. “It was a bad mistake”, Cornyn said about the way Democrats and the President pushed the bill through. Fifteen minutes? Five minutes? “Without their leadership and support of this effort, this bill likely can not get to 51 votes”. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia and Sen. An amendment from Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) – voted for expanded background checks. Later in the day Sen. These are big hits for congressional Republicans, who hate President Obama, hate women, hate the poor, and hate the idea of the government doing anything other than shooting guns at black and brown people.

The chamber voted to table the amendment on a 54-46 vote.
