Senators Get Their Message Out Ahead of Brett Kavanaugh Hearing

“I thought he might inadvertently kill me”, she was quoted as saying in the newspaper. How can an accused defend himself from charges of a nameless person?

Mr. Grassley also said staffers attempted to reach Ms. Blasey Ford several times over the past few days, but haven’t heard back from her about whether she will accept the invitation to testify. Judge, the friend who was allegedly involved in the incident, spoke to The Weekly Standard before Ford came forward publicly, and said: “It’s just absolutely nuts”. The book describes being an alcoholic in high school and even features a cameo by someone he calls “Bart O’Kavanaugh” who puked in someone’s auto and passed out on his way back from a party.

But there is also potential for overreach for the #MeToo movement – and Democrats – if they argue that one incident, allegedly carried out by a drunken 17-year-old Kavanaugh, disqualifies an otherwise stellar legal career and seemingly upright character. “It was really a disservice to every one of us – not just on behalf of sexual harassment victims but also on behalf of those people who believe in the integrity of the court and that it should be protected by the Senate, whose role is to advise on judicial nominations”. Because they obstruct and because they resist. “They have done now, supposedly, six background checks as Judge Kavanaugh has gone beautifully up a ladder”. She was asked if having four women on the committee mattered and said it was before deciding to launch this attack at half of America.

As for Kavanaugh, he said, “I feel so badly for him that he’s going through this, to be honest with you”.

“I feel terribly for him, for his wife, who is an incredible lovely woman, and for his handsome young daughters”, Trump said.

Meanwhile, Democratic and Republican senators sparred Tuesday over who could, should or would testify at a special followup hearing on Monday with Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, that has been scheduled in light of the sexual misconduct allegations. “This is a test for the Untied States Senate on how we handle accusations of sexual harassment and assault”.

Ultimately, she concluded, “a fair process in which both sides are fully heard is in everyone’s interest-including, most importantly, the country’s, given the stakes”.

Republicans are moving forward with their interviews and plans for a hearing despite the warnings from Democrats.

Senator Chuck Grassley said Ms Ford has not responded to attempts by the Republican-led judiciary committee, which oversees the confirmation process, to contact her. “We should not have gotten to this point”. What’s more, Ford’s past statements about the alleged episode aren’t proof of wrongdoing.

Republicans have accused California Sen.

On Tuesday, the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to the FBI and White House counsel Donald McGahn asking the agency to complete an investigation into the allegations before a public hearing.

On NBC’s “Today”, Katz defended Ford’s initial decision to stay anonymous and then to come forward. “There’s a lot of things that I’ve done when I was a teenager that I’m certainly ashamed of and not proud of”, he said. “We will delay the process until it’s finished out”.

Senate Republicans are obviously disturbed, so they want to give Ford a chance to submit her accusations to the Senate to get to the truth of the matter.

While Ford initially sought to keep her allegation confidential, she said she opted to go public once the allegation emerged in the public eye and reporters began pursuing her.

Schumer said Democrats want more than two witnesses, including Mark Judge, who Ford has said was a Kavanaugh friend present during the alleged assault.
