Sensex, Nifty open flat; Eicher Motors, L&T Infotech gain

The BSE Sensex, which opened at 28,232.87 points, traded at 28,086.12 points (at 2 p.m.) – down 122.50 points or 0.43 per cent from the previous close at 28,208.62 points.

From Asia, Japan’s Nikkei ended 1.72 per cent higher, while indices like Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan moved up by up to 0.43 per cent.
The Sensex has so far touched a high of 28,144.32 points and a low of 28,064.90 points during the intra-day trade.
Besides, some cautiouness prevailed in the markets on the chances of the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Bill getting passed during parliament’s ongoing monsoon session.
The NSE Nifty ended at 8,615.80, a gain of 25.15 points or 0.29 per cent after shuttling between 8,665 and 8,572.05. Sensex was trading 69 points down at 28,139.
Key European indices in countries like France, Germany and United Kingdom rose between 0.28 per cent and 1.44 per cent.
Moving to the domestic market, 17 scrips out of the 30-share Sensex ended lower.
Sector-wise, the consumer durables index augmented by 281.68 points, followed by the automobile index, which surged by 168.42 points, and the healthcare index rose by 128.81 points.
Key laggards were L&T 1.51 per cent, Adani Ports 1.38 per cent, Tata Steel 1.30 per cent, Axis Bank 0.98 per cent, Dr Reddy’s 0.93 per cent and Lupin 0.86 per cent.
Out of 1,836 stocks traded on the NSE, 438 declined, 1,042 advanced and 356 remained unchanged today.

The total turnover during the week at BSE and NSE rose to Rs 19,207.06 crore and Rs 1,22,169.73 crore, respectively, as against last weekend’s level of Rs 15,754.27 crore and Rs 96,015.14 crore.
