Sensex up 114 points; Bank stocks stay in focus
Key Indian equity market indices ended flat on Wednesday as investors booked profit.

The wider Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed 6.60 points or 0.08 percent up at 8,273.05 ponts.
The BSE Sensex, which opened at 26,833.54 points, ended the day’s trade provisionally at 27,009.67 points (at 03.54 p.m.), up 232.22 points or 0.87 percent from the previous day’s close at 26,777.45 points.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE touched 26,902.61 points as soon as the policy was announced and after that it maintained a constant upward movement.
Bharti Airtel was the best performing stock on both the benchmark indices and gained 2 per cent.
“Asian stocks hit a five-week high on Tuesday after US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen gave a largely upbeat assessment on the US economic outlook, while the dollar declined on diminishing expectations of interest rate increases in coming months”.
Sector-wise, the S&P BSE power index gained by 1.77 percent, capital goods index moved up by 1.76 percent and utilities index went up by 1.33 percent.
In Tuesday’s trade, good buying was observed in realty, banking, consumer durables, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and finance sectors.
The Sensex is trading at 26,880.47 points up 37.44 points or 0.14 per cent. However, IT index dropped by 0.43 percent.
Overnight, US stocks closed higher with energy stock leading as oil prices rose, after comments from Fed remained positive on economy.
Major gainers were BHEL (1.80 pc), L&T (1.52 pc), ICICI Bank (1.48 pc), Hero MotoCorp (1.32 pc), ONGC (1.27 pc), Axis Bank (0.89 pc), Cipla (0.85 pc), Wipro (0.76 pc), Tata Motors (0.70 pc), M&M (0.50 pc), HDFC (0.44 pc), Maruti Suzuki (0.42 pc) and SBI (0.29 pc). Japan’s Nikkei was, however, 0.85 per cent down.

Taiwan’s Taiex at 8,657.43 points (up 0.0.70%), Singapore’s Straits Times at 2,841.15 points (up 0.35%), Hong Kong’s Hang Seng at 21,183.82 points (up 0.73%), Thailand’s SET Composite at 1,449.17 points (up 0.40%) and Singapore Nifty at 8,271 points (up 0.44%).
