In a telephone interview, Stoehlker says Blatter “will be back officially in business on Tuesday next week”.

Blatter is expecting to leave the hospital early next week, Stoehlker told AFP on Wednesday.

He will remain in a Swiss hospital until Tuesday after he was first admitted last week for a routine check-up.

Stoehlker added Blatter had “regained his good humor” and has vowed to persist with “his fight against the (FIFA) ethics committee”, which suspended him over corruption allegations.

Platini had been favored to win the vote, but his suspension by FIFA’s ethics committee is thought to have hurt his candidacy.

Blatter, Michel Platini and Jerome Valcke were suspended by the ethics committee stemming from a payment between Blatter and Platini from 2011, according to CNN.

An unprecedented corruption scandal flared up in Federation Internationale de Football Association in the morning of May 27, one day before the 65th Federation Internationale de Football Association Congress in Zurich, as seven of the organization’s high-ranking officials were arrested in Switzerland on bribery, money laundering and corruption charges. But four days later he announced he would stand down when a new election is held on February 26.
