Stoehkler said Blatter had told him “his brain and heart were fine, but his body was letting him down”.

“He is now, at this moment, in hospital”, Blatter’s spokesman Klaus Stoehlker told AFP by phone, adding that Blatter was admitted several days ago.

Blatter, 79, began a scheduled five-day stay in an unidentified Swiss hospital for what was described as a “small emotional breakdown” and “a nervous shock”, after he underwent stress-related medical examinations, his lawyer Richard Cullen said.

The 79-year-old, who was temporarily suspended for 90 days last month as a corruption probe looks into FIFA, has been head of football’s governing body for 18 years, BBC News reports.

Blatter’s daughter Corinne has said that her father had been forced to cancel all of his appointments up to November 15.

Blatter was also suspected of mismanagement in one other case in a Swiss criminal probe. They have denied any wrongdoing.

“His most important message is that he is fully preparing himself to go ahead with his fight against his 90-day suspension”.

The Federation Internationale de Football Association presidential election is scheduled for 26 February 2016 with seven candidates competing to be the next Federation Internationale de Football Association boss.

“I am the elected Fifa president, I was elected by the 209 member federations of Fifa and no commission in the world can remove me”, he said.
