Sepp Blatter to Appeal FIFA Ethics Ban
Mr. Blatter was banned from all soccer-related activities for eight years Monday after being found guilty of a conflict of interest by FIFA’s Ethics Committee.

“We wouldn’t be here today”, Blatter said Monday as he digested being banned by the institution he helped to grow into a commercial giant.
He said he had also been told he would not receive the FIFA Ethics Committee’s full reasoning until the first half of January, meaning he stood little chance of standing in FIFA’s presidential election on February 26.
The university states the degree was removed in October but only confirmed the news on Tuesday. “Was it sleeping? Suddenly it wakes up”, he said. “I am suspended eight years for what?” “Being close to Blatter meant Platini became part of his system”.
“But in the meantime, my name has been dragged through the mud”, he added.
Both Platini and Blatter have signalled their intentions to appeal their bans at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, while Platini also told AFP that he would seek damages in the Swiss courts following his CAS appeal. “My reputation has been sullied, I’ve been kicked in the teeth”.
The downfall of Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, the man he was grooming to be his heir at Federation Internationale de Football Association, holds a stern lesson for the world of sports administration. But this “death sentence” notwithstanding, the entire non-European footballing world remains loyal to Blatter and he would likely win an election even today. Blatter said he thinks the day that major American sponsors pull out is far away, according to the Wall Street Journal Tuesday.
The 79-year-old and UEFA counterpart Michel Platini both received bans of eight years, though the former could not demonstrate “a legal basis for this payment” to the Frenchman four years ago.
European football leaders said the case was a worry however.
FA chairman Dyke said Blatter’s departure was an important change, but stressed a “proper and effective” reform process was as crucial before another bid could be considered. He follows the sport and was clear in his condemnation of Blatter and Platini, barred for abusing their positions over a suspect $2 million (1.8 million euro) payment.
