September Is National Preparedness Month
Today, as the residents of Louisiana mourn the loss of loved ones and face tremendous damage caused by historic floods, we are reminded of what Americans do in times like these – we see the power of love and community among neighbors who step up to help in extraordinarily hard circumstances. “September gives us the opportunity to make certain that Preparedness replaces the notion that it can’t happen here, or it won’t happen to me and my family”.

Most homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover flooding; often, this is a separate policy.
Promote National Preparedness Month (August 28 – September 3) Get ready to go from awareness to action.
HALTER (Horse & Livestock Team Emergency Response), a Glen Ellen-based grassroots initiative, is a recipient of the 2016 Federal Emergency Management Agencys (FEMA) Individual and Community Preparedness Award in the Awareness to Action category. Even if you’re not evacuating, it is always important to have an emergency supply kit at home. FEMA’s Ready.gov website provides detailed information on what may be most important to you and your family.
Follow along on social media and see how others across America are preparing. They also have information about how to help specific populations prepare such as children, senior citizens and the disabled.
SERVPRO offers tools for both commercial and residential property owners to help address this problem.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management (DEM), Nevada National Guard (NVNG), Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s (DPBH), Public Health Preparedness Program (PHP) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) are partnering together to participate in National Preparedness Month to encourage the public to plan for emergencies. Which is why it is so critical that our guardsmen across the state of Nevada are prepared in the event of an emergency.
Preparing Family & Friends (September 4 – 10) Consider that your entire family may not be together during a disaster – make a plan on how you will reunite after an emergency.
This month, we pay tribute to the courageous individuals who rush to the scene of disaster for their dedication to our safety and security, no matter the price.
