Warner Bros. Pictures has announced J.K. Rowling is writing a sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with David Yates once again returning to the director’s chair.

It’s always been said that FANTASTIC BEASTS would be a trilogy, but nothing is ever a sure thing in Hollywood.

The highly anticipated flicks, which are expected to be part of a trilogy, center on new stories within the wizarding world summoned up by “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling.

The second movie in the Harry Potter spin-off series “Fantastic Beasts” will be released in November 2018, Hollywood movie studio Warner Bros said on Wednesday, promising “much more on the horizon” from the boy-wizard franchise. Mashable cited Scholastic sales figures saying the series collectively has sold some 450 million books since the world was introduced to Harry, Hogwarts and the rest of the inhabitants of Rowling’s fictional world.

This is a bold move by Warner Bros. but the studio is clearly confident that Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is going to be a critical and commercial hit. The script of the play, just published, has already sold 2 million copies in two days, according to Scholastic. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sold 6.9 in the same timeframe. In fact, the last time a book sold quite this quickly was – you guessed it – Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows back in 2007.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is performed at the Palace Theatre in London.

He went on to say “The second movie introduces new characters as [Rowling] builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. I’d like as many Potter fans to see it as possible”, Rowling told journalists at the gala opening”.
