Serena Williams clinches record Wimbledon singles crown and doubles win

The sisters have not taken Grand Slam doubles titles since they dominated Wimbledon in 2012, the sports outlet notes.

It was their 14th doubles triumph as a team at the majors and their 22nd in 23 finals overall.

They are now in second place in the list of most Grand Slam titles in the Open Era with only Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver ahead of them with 20 crowns. They won the U.S. Open a year ago.

Mouratoglou hailed Serena’s serving as well as her play at the net, both of which were huge factors behind her victory on Saturday.

Speaking to a small media audience late on Saturday at Wimbledon, after her singles success was followed by a sixth doubles encore and successful Rio dress rehearsal with sister Venus, Williams was happier to discuss her off-court encounter with Court at the Hopman Cup.

“I learned not to get involved in those debates and conversations”. A day later in Minnesota, another black man was shot dead by an officer, this time after a traffic stop.

Addressing the current situation in the US, Williams said: “Violence is not the answer of solving it. The shooting in Dallas was very sad”.

She added: “I’ve won gold and I love gold”. But Yastremska finished the match with 42 unforced errors, 11 more than Potapova.

And she faced just one break point – at 3-all in the second set, it represented Kerber’s only real opening – and shut the door quickly and emphatically, with a pair of aces at 117 miles per hour and 124 miles per hour, her fastest of the afternoon. At the end I was trying everything, but she deserved it. She really played an unbelievable match.

Kerber simply had no answer to Serena’s huge serve, despite a courageous effort from the German, with two breaks enough to secure Serena victory 7-5, 6-3.

That was important, he knew, because it wasn’t as if she had forgotten how to play, of course, or allowed her skills to erode, even if she already was the oldest woman to be ranked No. 1 and the oldest to win a major title.

“I think [it] is just the ability to turn up my level and turn up my game when I need to in crunch time”, Serena said when asked about the qualities that allow her to be such a strong closer of matches.

The top-ranked Williams appeared in Beyonce’s video album “Lemonade” this year.

The slow starts she had in those matches were nowhere to be found on Saturday, as Williams played with newfound goal and power.

With a record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam title wrapped up, Serena Williams insists she will never get bored of winning and that is bad news for her flagging rivals.

Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber are still on serve in the women’s final at Wimbledon.

Kerber, 28, wants to eventually get back to another Wimbledon final. The fifth seeds, however, were the ones to draw first blood, going ahead 3-2 with a break.

For a while, Serena Williams forgot how big of a champion she is.

“What an incredible performance by Serena at Wimbledon!”.

The duke, who is also the president of the All England Club, will be accompanied by club chairman Philip Brook and Lawn Tennis Association president Cathie Sabin.

At this point, Serena Williams might be the best tennis player of all time.

He was particularly pleased with the volley that saw Serena seal her win.

But the 34-year-old’s frustration was mounting after losing in the US Open semi-finals and then this year’s Australian and French Open finals.

The sisters came out firing straight away against the No. 5 seeds Babos and Shvedova.
